As a fourth year Philosophy and French student at the University of Oxford, I have significant experience in critical thinking, and the importance of time-management and flexibility, both within the learning environment and between lessons. I am always interested to hear what students have to say on any given subject, and seek to provide an encouraging and productive environment for students to voice their opinions, guiding them to better grades through discussion as opposed to instruction and didacticism.
I have spent a large amount of my time at university participating in programmes for widening access to the university, including the Northern Ireland Summer School at St. Catherine's College, Oxford, where my fellow student ambassadors and I were required to engage in mock tutorials and mock interviews with prospective candidates for the university. Furthermore, I have worked as a Student Ambassador for the Oxford interviews process at Worcester College, where I was responsible for the welfare and guidance of interview candidates, giving tours of the college, and explaining my own experiences of the application process. I feel that my involvement with the University Access and Admissions department has provided me with a rich insight into the admissions process at Oxford, and UK universities as a whole, and my genuine desire to help prospective applicants - coupled with my experience in admissions - would make me a keen and enthusiastic tutor for any student. I tend towards using Socratic teaching techniques as a means of encouraging an environment of mutual respect in the classroom, such that students feel their ideas and thoughts are just as valuable as anybody else's.
